The Dumbwaiter

The dumbwaiter/Silent Movie
Research/Planning

this play was written by Harold Pinter the two main characters in the play are Ben and Guns and the place of premiered was Hampstead theatre club as well the play is written in original language English. The date premiered was the 21 January 1960.  It was also the setting of Dumbwaiter was in a basement room that was considered very unusual at that time period. The Dumb Waiter is a genre comedy-drama in my opinion it had Charlie Chapman inspired scenes and acting throughout. I was shown a video by Rob which was of a Charlie Chaplin miming scene. I found this scene very intriguing and fascinating as it had inspired me and gave me ideas on how to use the techniques in my performance.

when my acting teacher Robert gave the dumbwaiter to us at first I didn't quite understand everything what was going on then I researched and found out the origin of the characters Gus and Ben was the controlling one out of the two he wanted everything his way or it was the way highway for Gus . therefor he was very rude and arrogant therefor speaking to Gus in a under minding way .

Gus was a bit on the dopey he didn't really understand what was going on and in my opinion i thought he was a bit paranoid Ben had to tell Gus do things more then once so it stuck into his brain because it seems like to me Gus was in his own little bubble as such. The Rob set it out for us into little groups that helped us put our own ways into the characters therefor making everyone acts all different sorts of ways and they wouldn't know and each person had a part of the play to act i was doing it with shelve so whos each put in groups. Therefore i think this helped us because we got to know other people and we learn the skill to work with anyone . At the start some of a struggle to learn the lines but in the end we all got there I thought helped a lot of us build confidence on stage.

I had watched a video on the dumb waiter play as part of my own research. This video had helped me understand the play in more depth and detail.
